Q: If we can’t see the trash in the ocean isn’t it safe to leave it?

A: NO. Once trash gets into the oceans, it becomes a global problem and it hurts indiscriminately: damaging vital habitats, endangering the lives of animals, leaching toxins into the water (including popular swimming areas) causing health problems for people and fish, and within the strong currents trash can find its way into even the most remote areas.

Q: What can be done about trash in the ocean ?

A: Retrieving marine trash is both time consuming and expensive, so the best thing is to stop it before it reaches the water. This can prevent further accumulation while efforts can be put in place to remove the debris already in our oceans.

Q: How does it get in the ocean in the first place?

A: All litter comes from human hands whether inadvertently or deliberate and only human hands can prevent it from continuing.
